Clash Royale Merge Tactics Tier List
Clash Royale has introduced a brand-new game mode called Merge Tactics. Now, most of you might think that it's the same as the Clash Mini, but it is not. Merge Tactics brings its own unique mechanics to the battlefield, where players need to strategically merge similar units on the board to upgrade them further. The nature of the game feels faster, more dynamic, and more strategic.
Players must master balancing the merging of troops along with smart positioning and fast decision-making to tackle the unpredictability and trickery of the game. For the beginners or someone who is struggling to claim victory in the Merge Tactic, one of the most significant problems out there is not having enough knowledge of the units. To help you with the troop selection, we have prepared a guide and a tier list of every troop you will come across in the new mode.

Overview of Merge Tactics
The Merge Tactics is a strategy-based game mode where you need to place your troops on a board of 5 x 3 grid. Players have to merge identical units to create upgraded versions of them, and each of them will increase the troop’s level and power. Just like any other strategic plays, you will follow the tradition of frontline soaking damage and backline on damage duty. But the unique factor is the unpredictability of the units, which will spawn randomly anywhere on the empty tiles.
Moreover, instead of the general Elixir system, the game uses an energy system that regenerates over time. In order to claim victory, strong troops, adaptability to counter, and fast decision-making will be required.
Tier List
The Tier list features every troop unit you will come across on the battlefield of the Merge Tactics mode and is ranked on the factors – individual strength, performance, and synergy.
- S-tier: Archer Queen, Bandit, Royal Ghost, Skeleton King
- A-tier: Valkyrie, Mega Knight, Golden Knight, Goblin Machine
- B-tier: Princess, Goblin, P.E.K.K.A, Prince
- C-Tier: Barbarian, Giant Skeleton, Dart Goblin, Knight, Archer
- D-tier: Executioner, Bomber, Spear Goblin
S-Tier
The S-Tier consists of the strongest troop units in the game that are currently dominating the meta with their overwhelming offense and high hitpoints.
Archer Queen
The Archer Queen belongs to the Clan and Avenger traits. She fires multiple arrows hitting the closest enemy to her. Additionally, when her HP drops below 50%, the Queen turns invisible and deals extra bonus damage.
Bandit
The Bandit belongs to the Ace and Avenger traits. She dashes from one enemy to another which is the farthest in 3 hexes after a certain hit and deals bonus damage and stunning all the enemies in her path for 1s.
Royal Ghost
The Royal Ghost belongs to the Undead and Assassin traits. He is good at dealing a massive amount of damage and his ability makes him invisible for a short period of time after taking 3 hits.
Skeleton King
The Skeleton King belongs to the Undead and Juggernaut traits. He deals a good amount of area-based damage and has high hitpoints. The King also summons a Skeleton every time he defeats an enemy.
A-tier
The A-tier consists of strong and flexible troops that are a good pick depending on the game and the synergies. They might not be the strongest but they hold their own ground in the battlefield.
Valkyrie
The Valkyrie is a ferocious fighter from the Clan and Avenger traits. She is a master of the axe who excels in dealing area damage.
Mega Knight
The Mega Knight belongs to the Ace and Brawler traits. He is high on hitpoints but the special thing about him is his jump that strikes the largest group of enemies every few seconds. The jump not only deals damage but also stuns the enemies in the Hex radius for a duration of 2s.
Golden Knight
The Golden Knight belongs to the Noble and Assassin traits. He is very popular because of his dashes that targets the lowest HP enemy right after eliminating an enemy.
Goblin Machine
The Goblin Machine comes from the Goblin and Juggernaut traits. This unit is perfect for cleaning the enemy backlines while charging forward to the frontline. He fires a rocket to the farthest enemy dealing 50% extra damage and stuns them for 1.5s.
B-tier
The B-tier troops are balanced and useful but require specific scenarios to shine. You can call them as the situational picks.
Princess
The Princess belongs to the Noble and Ranger traits. She fires arrows to the farthest enemy dealing damage in a 2-hex radius.
Goblin
The Goblin has the goblin and assassin traits. The sneaky troop is good for speed and melee attacks with decent damage.
P.E.K.K.A
The P.E.K.K.A belongs to the Ace and Juggernaut traits. She has high hitpoints and deals a crazy amount of damage with her hits. But the problem is her slow attacks and she becomes easier to kill in the later part of the game.
Prince
The Prince is from the Noble and Brawler traits. He charges at the nearest target dealing 2x damage and stunning them for 2s.
C-tier
These units are outclassed by most of the other units and are only used for specific synergies.
Barbarian
The Barbarian is an optional pick because of his less slow attack, short range, and low hitpoints.
Giant Skeleton
The Giant Skeleton carries a bomb that blasts upon his death. The troop does not deal much damage and it loses the impact if it dies in the early stage of the game.
Dart Goblin
The Dart Goblins are good for fast attacks from the backline but can be easily replaced by the other higher tier ranged troops.
Knight
The knight has a high amount of hitpoints but that's it. He lacks in damage output and in creating any real pressure in the game.
Archer
Archer is an entry level ranged unit and just like Dart Goblin, she is only good for synergies and can be easily replaced.
D-tier
The D-tier troops struggle to make their efforts impactful that is why they are rarely used in the game mode.
Executioner
The Executioner certainly needs a buff and is unable to make his place in the current meta of the Merge Tactics mode.
Bomber
Bomber throws a bomb that does a decent amount of splash damage but he cant keep up in the later part of the game.
Spear Goblin
The Spear Goblin is not at all recommended for use due to his lack in both durability and damage. That is why he is at the bottom of the list.
