What are Bosses in Where Winds Meet?

Unlike regular enemies in the game, boss fights with Elite or World class bosses can get quite pragmatic. They operate on a completely different level than the regular encounters. Every boss has a unique pattern which it uses to attack along with several phases that make it stronger, and a set of weaknesses that the players need to exploit to gain the upper edge in the battle.

While every boss’s attack pattern is different, they share a similar element called “Qi System” which is quite important while competing against such bosses. The Qi System refers to the bar underneath the health bar of the boss. When it is filled to the brim, the players can launch devastating moves, dealing massive damage along with critical hits.

The Puppeteer Boss: An Overview

This is world-class boss of Difficulty level 5 stars. Sheng Wu is found in the South of Verdant Wilds Campfire Waypoint. This waypoint is located in the Qinghe region and you can find the boss halfway between Bamboo Abode and Battlecrest Slope. To get there faster, players can use the Northen Bamboo Grove or the Northern Vow ruins.

While this is one of the easy bosses in the game, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the fight will be easy. If you don’t take the puppeteer seriously and come in unprepared, you will surely have a lot to regret later as this boss is capable of puppet manipulation techniques.

Sheng WuAttack Pattern

The puppeteer excels in using a variety of attacks with its halberd. It mainly just uses it to swing around or stab it. It can also a perform a thrust forward with its weapon which can be countered easily but be careful as the boss can also repeat this attack a second time as well.

The Puppeteer has the following attacks in Phase 1:

  • Forward Slashes/Two Strings (performs two at a time)
  • Puppet Thrust (it attacks with a thrust forward with his weapon)
  • Spinning Slash (Followed by a forward slash)
  • Vertical Sweeping (performs two at a time)
  • Gold Attack (jumps into air and dives at you)
  • Puppet Slam (jumps and slams their weapon on the ground)
  • Three Strings (spins their weapon twice and swings at the third hit)
  • Six Strings (rushes forward and spins before jumping for the final hit)
  • Ace of the Puppet (swings their blade like a baseball bat)
  • Aerial Slam Attack (spinning into air before slamming the halberd down)
  • The Iron-Rod (steps back and jumps with a golden glow before lunging with a thrust)

The Puppeteer has the following attacks in Phase 2:

  • Five Strings (slashes forward and spins for the final hit)
  • Puppet Block (blocks incoming attacks and somersaults away if the player deals heavy damage)
  • Nameless Rush (goes into stance with red glow and rushed forward performing a slash and spinning down slash)

Aside from this, Sheng Wu plays more defensively than the others. Sometimes, it can hold out its halberd and block the damage and the other times, it can just roll away. Although you will still be able to hit the boss when its blocking, the damage it takes will be minimized. While most of the moves in Phase 1 can be dodged and parried, the Iron-rod attack can only be dodged and not parried.

Sheng WuPhases of Sheng Wu

Phase 1

The first phase of Sheng Wu will involve the attacks stated above. Players can dodge and parry most of the attacks but this requires time precision and active skills. It is recommended for the players to utilize the Qi system in such a way that it maximized their time for dealing more damage. For example, use the Qi system only when the already used stun duration is going to be over instead of using it instantly. This will make the monster vulnerable for a prolonged time.

Phase 2

Once you finish depleting the Puppeteer’s first health bar, the second phase will start and two puppet minions will appear. Although these minions can only attack in the direction they are facing, players still need to be careful. Once the minions have been defeated, the boss will be vulnerable to damage again. The puppeteer will perform almost the same attacks as in Phase 1 but with slight variations. In one of its attacks, it will create a whirlwind that draws the player in to deal increased damage but this can be avoided by utilizing Mystic Art Cloud Step to jump on the Boss’s head and avoid the attack. After you are done parrying the attacks, dodging the attacks you can’t parry and attacking the boss until it goes down.

Strategies to follow during the fight

1.Instead of blocking, focus on dodging while in the puppet summon phases.

2.When the puppets create openings, target the puppeteer directly.

3.Use the following fighting styles while fighting him:

  • Martial Arts: Strategic Sword, Heavenquaker Spear
  • Mystic Arts: Meridian Touch
  • Infernal Arts: Evening Snow, Steadfast Stance

4.You can also follow the timing windows listed below:

  • After the puppet summon animation, the boss is vulnerable for 3 second
  • During the puppet recall sequences, there is a 5 second opening
  • Between the puppet command phases, there is a 2 second window

Conclusion

Sheng Wu is a boss that requires more precision than just brute force. The most effective rhythm is to wait for the combo to finish, parry the final hit or dodge it and then go for a punishing window. The moves from Phase 1 are easily readable and the only one you need to dodge is The Iron-rod. Every other move can be parried easily if you follow the timings. It is to be noted that in the second phase, Sheng Wu will refill their HP and disappear in a cloud of smoke before reappearing.
