Air pollution causes millions of premature deaths every year so air quality monitoring is 
essential yo protect everyone’s health. Currently, air quality monitoring is mostly performed via large governmental stations, but their data are not published in real time and the mesh is not dense enough to quickly detect local pollution peaks and analyze their causes.
PlanetWatch is a global network of air quality sensors and environmentally-conscious people  who help build a dense mesh of sensors to deliver much needed hyperlocal air quality data  worldwide. PlanetWatchers buy and deploy air quality sensors outside their homes or carry  them while moving in the city or traveling. This approach enables us to quickly deploy low-cost, real-time sensing networks that effectively complement governmental networks. 
The same goes for indoor air quality monitoring. Planetwatchers can deploy sensors in their  homes and generate data which are instrumental to protect their families’ health and to power scientific studies.
