About the Game

Long ago in a mythologized version of the ancient East, humanity and the gods known as Tenjin fought side by side against a monstrous demonic invasion. Their victory came at a steep price. The sacred relic called the Tenhafu, a heavenly blade scripture of immense power, was shattered in the course of that war and its fragments scattered across the world. Centuries passed, wounds healed, and the memory of that conflict faded into legend.
That peace did not last. The demon lord Taishakuten, restored to full strength after years of recovery, has returned with a revived demonic army seeking vengeance against the human world. Without the Tenhafu intact, humanity has no equivalent power to resist, and civilization is once again pushed to the edge of ruin. Into this desperate situation steps a singular figure, a person identified by divine fate as the one capable of changing the outcome. That person is you.
Your journey in 暁ノ天刃録 is built around a genuinely open approach to character development. Rather than locking you into a class at the start, the game presents you with four weapon paths to choose from:
Sword: a direct, powerful option suited to frontline combat
Cane: a versatile choice balancing offense and elemental techniques
Stick: a high-mobility weapon for aggressive fighting styles
Koto: an instrument-based weapon tied to more esoteric abilities
Once you commit to a weapon, you develop your fighter further through mastery of the five classical elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Each element adds a distinct layer to how your character performs in combat. You then refine your identity further by choosing a defining combat attribute from three options, Recca, Ice and Snow, or Heat Lightning, each of which shapes both your visual style and your tactical approach to enemies.
One of the standout mechanics involves forming contracts with Tenjin, powerful divine beings who serve as battle partners. When summoned, a Tenjin takes over your character temporarily and unleashes dramatic, high-impact attacks that can reverse the flow of a losing battle in an instant. Each Tenjin carries a distinct personality and builds a relationship with you over time, making these partnerships feel like more than just a combat resource.
Exploration is a central part of the experience. The game world spans a wide range of environments that reflect the Eastern aesthetic at the heart of its design:
