About the Game

Brunante is a simulation about the hour after the sun drops below the horizon, when the light turns low and uncertain and the dark has not yet arrived. Developed by Patriote, the game opens without ceremony: you wake on a shore with a knife and nothing else. There is no tutorial, no prompt telling you what to do next, and no marker pointing toward a goal. You gather what the land leaves within reach, put up something to sleep under, and then improve it piece by piece. A lean-to becomes a hut, a hut becomes a cabin, and eventually you may raise a turf house or a hall long enough to keep four animals at one end. Ten shelter types exist, and each one is better at something the others are not.
A WORLD THAT UNFOLDS AS YOU WALK Brunante generates a world of sixteen million tiles as you move into it. Rivers can be waded, caves run deeper than they first appear, and the landscape holds abandoned villages, wrecks, a watchtower that charts the country for miles, and a quarry that stays worthless until you have made a pick. Nothing is handed to you, and almost everything you find becomes useful only after you learn how to use it.

The game supports both grinding and sitting quietly in the woods. Both approaches are treated as valid ways to play.
THE YEAR TURNS Four seasons change what grows, what bites, what you can catch, and how fast the cold reaches you. Broadleaf trees turn gold and then bare while spruce stays green. Sheltered shallows freeze while rivers keep moving. Winter takes the ponds away and hands you the ground they stood on.
SOMEBODY WAS HERE FIRST Four people lived on this water before you, and two more watched from the far shore. You find their papers one page at a time, out of order, and the game reassembles them in the order they were written. The two households do not agree about why the place emptied, and nothing ever settles it. There are no people left to meet. That absence is part of the point.
AND YOU KEEP A BOOK The game writes your run down as you live it, recording the first frost, the boar that came for you, the hundredth day. You can share the page it creates.
