At the heart of the current content is the newly introduced Corpse Retriever profession. This role is built around traveling across the threshold between the living and the dead, recovering physical remains from waterways, and attending to the unfinished emotional business that keeps spirits anchored to the world. The Corpse Retriever acts as a kind of ferryman, working the Yin-Yang River and confronting what lingers on both sides. Exclusive profession events tied to this role offer players additional rewards and challenges that deepen engagement with the concept.
The game's story content is organized around several distinct locations, each carrying its own curse and mythology:
Dachang Middle School: A campus arc where strange phenomena have made normal life impossible. Players use ghost-controlling techniques to dismantle a blood curse, neutralize classroom spirits, and work through a moral framework of right and wrong that ultimately determines the fate of every ghost bound to the school.
Bloodstained Hotel and Bus Route 444: Two of the game's most iconic set pieces, each adapted from well-known folk legends. These locations expand the investigation side of the game, asking players to solve mysteries, trace the origins of curses, and piece together what caused the reversal of Yin and Yang in the first place.
Fengdu City: A ghost-filled urban environment where deception is the primary threat. Players rely on Yin-Yang discernment abilities to separate truth from supernatural manipulation and find safe passage through a city built on lies.
Survival gameplay enters the picture through a dormitory defense arc where evil spirits launch coordinated attacks on the last safe space available to students. This tower defense mode asks players to think strategically, placing buildings, leveraging class-specific bonuses, and managing resources across increasingly difficult waves of spiritual assault. It contrasts sharply with the investigation and narrative content, adding a tactical layer that rewards preparation.
The Liaozhai-inspired romance system brings yet another dimension to the experience. Players can encounter fox spirits and other supernatural figures drawn from classic Chinese ghost story traditions, building relationships that generate exclusive combat buffs and cultivation bonuses. The co-cultivation mechanic, which involves tempering the player character through exposure to ghostly Yin energy, ties the romance system directly into progression, making emotional entanglement with the supernatural a practical strategic choice as much as a narrative one.
Combat tools include both Taoist exorcism magic and darker black magic techniques for controlling spirits directly. The choice between these approaches reflects the game's broader moral tension, as using darker methods gets results but carries its own costs within the story.
