About the Game

Four Cards of the Abyss is a solo roguelite card RPG from developer usagimaru. The core idea is simple but tense: each turn you choose up to four cards from your hand and decide the order in which they activate. That order matters, because the same cards can produce very different outcomes depending on sequencing. You also face tabletop RPG-style event checks, where your choices and circumstances determine success or failure. The game is designed for portrait play and supports resuming interrupted runs, making it easy to pick up for a few minutes or settle in for a longer session. On PC, MuMuPlayer provides a comfortable way to experience the game with a larger display and precise controls.
Gameplay revolves around hand management, card cost, card speed, and your remaining Pool. Cards let you attack, defend with shields and wards, heal, or disrupt the enemy. You need to read enemy behavior and card details carefully, and holding a card lets you inspect its specifics. Because activation order changes results, planning each turn becomes a small puzzle. This is not a game about playing cards randomly; it rewards thoughtful sequencing and risk assessment.
There are two main ways to explore. The Campaign challenges you with each chapter's enemies and a boss. As you grow stronger, you clear the way and can sweep completed chapters for rewards. The Endless Abyss follows a changing route through battles, merchants, altars, and mysterious encounters as you descend deeper. Along the way, you choose how to act and then face a check that determines success or failure. You must weigh your cards and circumstances: take the risk or walk away? This creates the tension of tabletop RPG choices in a solo format.
Progression involves four characters: the Swordsman, the Warden, the Blade Fiend, and the Hexer. Each has awakenings that help shape your tactics. You can merge and fuse cards, strengthen them through mastery, and improve weapons, armor, and accessories. The Altar offers new cards and equipment, while the Fusion Altar lets you offer two cards for a chance at a miracle. A collection system lets you revisit discovered cards and enemies, and player profiles and records help you follow your progress.
Competition focuses on depth in the Endless Abyss. All-time and weekly leaderboards let you challenge your personal best, and you earn rewards based on your weekly rank. The game also includes settings for sound, vibration, and effects, plus tutorials and in-game instructions to help you get started. It is available in Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
