About the Game

Haruka Ryugu begins with an ordinary university student caught in a violent, monster-filled storm at sea near Dan-no-ura. Rescued by a kimono-clad warrior who identifies himself as Kiyomori of the Heike clan, the protagonist is carried beneath the waves into a world unlike anything in the modern era. This hidden realm is Ryugu, a radiant water city governed by the Dragon God, and the protagonist has been chosen as its Divine Child. What follows is a journey that stretches across centuries, cultures, and conflicts, guided by eight extraordinary companions known as the Eight Leaves.
The Eight Leaves are heroes summoned from distinct periods of Japanese history, each carrying the weight of their own era and the scars of battles long fought. In Ryugu, they share a living space with the protagonist, and the game cultivates this coexistence through a layered daily life system. Conversations shift with the time of day and the turning of seasons, small moments accumulate into meaningful connections, and an overarching narrative called the Story of Ryugu explores how these warriors from different centuries relate to one another as companions navigating an unfamiliar world together.
The second major dimension of the experience opens when players travel with each of the Eight Leaves back into their home eras. These Otherworldly Stories cover settings including the Heian, Sengoku, and late Edo periods, delivering historical fiction with emotional depth. Each journey centers on confronting a mad god tied specifically to that character's past, and the dramatic tension that unfolds is shaped by personal history, shared struggle, and the nature of the bond the player has built with that companion. Players can pursue a romantic path or walk alongside their companion as a trusted ally, and both directions receive full narrative attention.
Battles are built around a card placement system with genuine strategic layers:
Units are assigned to front and back line positions, and elemental compatibility between cards influences outcomes
Auto-organize and auto-battle features allow players to engage at their preferred level of involvement
A skip function makes replaying or progressing through familiar content efficient
God Induction, the game's signature special move, calls upon a divine being connected to each of the Eight Leaves and delivers a visually powerful finishing sequence
The intimacy features in Haruka Ryugu go well beyond standard companion systems. Divine Energy Infusion lets players engage in touch-based interactions with the Eight Leaves, creating moments of closeness that feel personal and immediate. The Sleeping Together feature places the player beside a chosen companion at rest, where they can hear his breathing and sleep talk, and even poke him to receive a response. These elements are designed to make each character feel genuinely present rather than simply functional.
Even during time away from the game, the Eight Leaves remain active. They accumulate training items on their own, handle requests submitted by the player, and produce equipment that carries practical value in battle. This offline companion activity reinforces the sense that relationships in Ryugu continue to develop naturally rather than pausing whenever the screen goes dark.
The game features a full voice cast including Asami Seto, Katsuyuki Miura, Ryuichi Kijima, Ryota Suzuki, and many others, with character designs contributed by Touko Mizuno, Bekko, Zerogo Iwamoto, Yomi, and the Kurage Team from Koei Tecmo Games. The divine character designs are the work of Hayate Kohaku.
