About the Game

Maximus 1: Handsome Edition is the restored opening chapter of Four Fats Limited's action RPG beat 'em up line, rebuilt for current players while keeping the original story intact. The premise is simple: an evil figure called Mr. B. is moving to dominate the world, and four heroes get swept into the conflict by accident. What follows is a journey through ogres, ghouls, goblins, and bears, told through fast hack and slash combat and a cast that each has a reason to fight.
The four playable heroes define how the game feels. Julius is a swashbuckling swordmaster whose mother was killed by the dragon Bruticus. Bishop is a ranger archer with deadly aim, driven by the loss of his twin brother Raven. Alyssa is a spellsword warrior whose house burned down just after she finished paying off her mortgage. Frank is the tank and destroyer, a man who fell into a cauldron of magic potion as a boy and emerged as a powerhouse brawler. Each one brings unique combat styles, special abilities, and quick brawler combos, so switching characters changes how you approach a fight.
Content is built around steady progression. There are 16 maps to battle through and 15 boss encounters that test your timing and combo execution. Along the way you face 38 unique enemy types, each with its own behavior and place in the world. The loot and gear system adds a collection layer: random weapons, armor sets, and pets drop as you play, giving you reasons to replay stages and experiment with builds. A Boss vs Boss mode lets you pick two bosses and watch them brawl, which is a lighter way to enjoy the roster. Survival Mode pushes you into an arena against infinite waves, where the goal is to last as long as possible. Fat Mounts add humor and variety, letting you ride fireball breathing owls or a bear that piledrives people.
Progression is tied to gameplay. All characters, gear, and content are fully unlockable by playing, with no separate purchase path required for the roster. That makes the game a long term project of mastering heroes, hunting gear, and clearing tougher stages.
On PC, MuMuPlayer gives the game a comfortable home. The emulator supports keyboard and mouse mapping as well as gamepad input, which suits the combo driven combat better than touch controls during boss fights and extended Survival Mode runs.
