Once you have chosen a faction, the real activity begins. The Ingress Scanner, the in-game tool you use to interact with the world, allows you to visit locations tied to real cultural landmarks. Public art, historical monuments, and points of community significance all become Portals, the fundamental building blocks of territorial control. Visiting and capturing these Portals is how your faction expands its reach.
But capturing individual Portals is only the beginning. The deeper strategic layer involves connecting Portals through links and then using those links to form Control Fields, triangular zones that your faction effectively dominates. The larger and more numerous those fields, the stronger your faction's position becomes. Managing this network requires planning, timing, and a clear understanding of what the opposing faction is doing at any given moment.
Cooperation is not optional in Ingress. It is central to how the game functions at its highest level. Agents regularly communicate with teammates in their local area and with players operating in entirely different parts of the world.
