About the Game

When the Nohara family packs up and heads to Hiroshi's hometown in Akita Prefecture, what starts as a quiet countryside relocation turns into something far more adventurous. Hiroshi receives an unexpected work assignment near his parents' home, so the whole family settles into a traditional Japanese farmhouse surrounded by rolling fields and forested hills. Life slows down in the best possible way. Evenings are spent gathered around the sunken hearth, sharing Akita dishes that Shinnosuke's grandmother prepares with vegetables grown right in the backyard garden.
The rural routines themselves become a core part of the gameplay experience. Shinnosuke's grandfather Ginnosuke serves as a guide to country living, teaching him the finer points of catching bugs and fishing in the rivers that wind through the Akita landscape. These are not simple minigames tacked onto the side of the story. Catching insects in the wooded groves and pulling fish from the water feeds directly into a nature book collection that grows as players explore more of the region. Shinnosuke follows, only to find a strange train he has never seen before. He boards it and arrives in Coal Town, a bustling working-class settlement that looks and feels like it belongs to a completely different era. The people there are lively and welcoming, and Shinnosuke quickly begins forming friendships with residents who each have their own stories and needs.
Some of the most memorable moments in Coal Town come from working with a young inventor who draws Shinnosuke into a series of imaginative building projects. The invention system encourages creativity and gives players something to look forward to each time they visit. Meanwhile, the Trolley Race adds a competitive layer to the experience. Players can:
