Pokémon TCG Guide to Giratina ex Snorlax Deck

05/19/2025

The Celestial Guardians are a thing in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Frankly, the entire set of cards was full of surprises. There are many new Pokémon from the new Celestial Guardians set. This set also featured the introduction of Item Cards: Rare Candy. We will see it used widely for deck-building in the future.

With the introduction of the new set of cards, Giratina ex stood out. Why? Mainly because of Snorlax. This duo is meta right now, mainly because of the Rare Candy Item Card. The deck is a bit overpowered, to say the least. In this guide, we will cover the deck, how it works, how to counter it, and finally, how it does right now and its future prospects. Let's get started!

The Giratina ex Snorlax Deck

The Giratina ex Snorlax deck has 4 Pokémon and 8 trainer cards. The whole deck is primarily focused on water and psychic energy types. The Pokémons in this deck are:

  • Froakie (2)
  • Greninja (2)
  • Snorlax A2b (2)
  • Giratina ex (2)

In the lineup, Snorlax runs on Colourless Energy. Giratina ex charges itself, so the deck will support a strategy for both water and psychic types. If that did not make sense, three of the Pokémon could attack. Greninja with water, psychic for Giratina, and Snorlax works with both energies. To make this group of Pokémon work together as a solid team, you will need the following items and trainer cards.

  • Rare Candy (2)
  • Barry (2)
  • Pokemon Center Lady (2)
  • Professor's Research (2)
  • Rocky Helmet (1)
  • Cyrus (1)
  • Poke Ball (1)
  • Ilima (1)

Out of these cards, ensure that you have the Rare Candy, Barry, and the Pokemon Center Lady. Without these three cards, you cannot play with the Giratina ex Snorlax Deck.

How Will the Deck Work?

Your main player is Snorlax. It will be the Pokémon that deals damage and tanks it, too. Giratina will be the secondary. Finally, Greninja will be like a sharp shooter. Now, the main card that makes the lineup possible is the Rare Candy. The rare candy raises the level of a Pokémon by one level. So, with the rare candy, you can skip the Frogadier completely and directly move to Greninja.

Why have the Pokémon Center Lady? She is the nurse at the Pokémon center and can heal damage while recovering from all Special Conditions. Because of the removal of the special conditions, it works well with Snorlax. If you did not know, Snorlax’s attack is burdened with sleep after each use. So, the Pokémon lady can remove the sleep condition and make Snorlax effective.

In a similar fashion, Barry also supports Snorlax. He discounts the energy requirement, lowering it to a two from a four. This feature allows you to attack faster.

How Should You Play This Deck?

  1. As mentioned before, your Snorlax will be the main player. So, place it in the Active Spot. Use the Rocky helmet or a poison barb to tank more damage.
  2. Giratina will be the secondary. Allow it to self-charge and wait.
  3. Use the Zone’s energy on Snorlax to attack. This step is where Barry will help you out.
  4. While Snorlax is tanking for the team, use the Rare Candy on the Froakie.
  5. So, you will have two Geninjas, making your damage output to 140.
  6. When Snorlax is done, let Giratina in.
  7. Whenever Snorlax sleeps, use the Pokemon Center Lady to combat the sleep condition.

How To Counter This Deck?

In Pokémon TCG, if one person has thought about it, chances are there will be another. So, you have to prepare to fight back against the same deck. The best counter for the Giratina ex Snorlax deck is the Darkrai ex with Giratina ex, or use the Charizard ex with Incineroar ex. These decks do well in attacking against the synergy of Snorlax and Giratina ex. But, the final result will depend on how you play your cards.

Another great way to deter the deck is by focusing on Snorlax. It is weak towards fighting-type Pokémon. So, targeting Snorlax with a good fighting-type Pokémon will make this deck fail. So, a Rampardos deck or the Garchomp ex with Rampardos can work well against the deck.

How Effective Is the Giratina ex Snorlax Deck?

In the present scenario of the game, using this deck is good. You have a win rate of 52 per cent, a meta share of 10 per cent. This deck also has a decent number of tournament appearances. Now, these stats are average. So, if you want to use this deck for the future, it might not be meta.

To be honest, the deck combo feels very fragile. It struggles against some of the standard decks. So, right now, it does not seem viable for the future. While the lineup is not old, it recently got popular and meta. This popularity stems from its effectiveness against Oricorio. Other than that, the deck is average. So, should you consider it an investment for the future? No, there are significantly better decks and cards that will be meta for the foreseeable future. You would be better off trying a DarkTina combo.

Conclusion

There are many decks and combos in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. The Giratina ex Snorlax deck is good, especially if you are looking to have some fun. At the end of the day, having fun is what matters truly. May your matches be victorious and may you catch them all.
