Umeshiwa is a simulation game from developer SNAPLACE that turns the daily grind of a Japanese office worker into a quirky, pixelated journey. You follow a hectic 365-day commute, tapping on landmarks like the station, company, cafeteria, and home to trigger events, all while a 126-yen rice ball named Umeshiwa talks back from your bag. Each in-game day takes about three minutes and contains three events, blending light storytelling with mini-games. You can play Umeshiwa on PC through MuMuPlayer, which brings this charming commute to a larger screen with comfortable controls.
The game packs a surprising amount of variety into its compact days. Across 365 in-game days, you encounter 100 types of mini-games spanning action, puzzle, shooting, rhythm, and more, with 1095 total stages that grow more challenging over time. Events range from preventing a cash register from escaping to physically approving paid leave with a stamp, or dodging falling documents at quitting time. Umeshiwa himself comments on your choices with dry humor, and monthly goals give the year structure, such as creating an employee ID for him in April or reclaiming the section chief's lunch break in October. A separate eight-chapter adventure, Give Back Twelve O'Clock, explores why lunch breaks disappeared, and a 365-Day Notebook keeps track of topics and conversations. Basic play is free through April 30th, with a one-time 300-yen commuter pass unlocking the rest of the year, and there are no ads or other charges.
Playing Umeshiwa on PC with MuMuPlayer suits the game's quick-hit rhythm. The keyboard and mouse make tapping through mini-games precise, whether you are holding a microwave button or dodging documents, and the larger display makes the pixel art and single-line task prompts easy to read. MuMuPlayer also lets you play on Mac, including MacBook and macOS systems, as well as Mac mini through MuMuPlayer, so you can keep the commute going across devices. Since each day is short, being able to sit down at a PC or Mac and resume from the 365-Day Notebook fits naturally into a busy schedule.

About the Game
Umeshiwa, developed by SNAPLACE, is a simulation game about the small absurdities of working life, told through a year-long pixelated commute. The premise is simple: a 126-yen rice ball with a wrinkled pickled plum face starts talking to you from your bag, and your daily routine becomes a series of odd, funny, and surprisingly relatable moments. The game follows 365 days from April 1st to March 31st, and each day is designed to fit into roughly three minutes.
A Day in the Life
You move through a pixelated town that includes the station, the company, the cafeteria, the distribution warehouse, the park, the shopping street, and home. Tapping on a landmark starts that day's events. Tasks appear as a single line at the top of the screen, so you always know what to do next. Three events make up a day, and once they are done, you move on to the next date. The full year is included, and the 365-Day Notebook records the day's topic by date, along with key points, characters, and conversations you have read. If you close the game midway, you can pick up from where you left off.
Mini-Games for Every Office Annoyance
The heart of Umeshiwa is its collection of 100 mini-game types, which turn company matters into playful challenges. You might chase down an escaping cash register, grab a red stamp and release it in the approval field to physically approve paid leave, or press and hold a microwave button until steam appears. At quitting time, you dodge falling documents to get home, sneak past a patrolling section chief, or shoot down accumulated unread emails. The games span action, sports and physics, puzzle, strategy and card games, simulation, shooting, rhythm, and observation. Each type appears across 1095 stages, and the same game becomes harder as the days progress, so the year keeps escalating without losing its light tone.
Umeshiwa's Commentary
Your companion, Umeshiwa, reacts every time you take him out of your bag. His lines are dry and observant, touching on receipts thinning your wallet, giving your stamp a vacation, or the budget for cannons protecting lunches and the cafeteria growing stronger. This running commentary gives the game its satirical edge and makes the rice ball a memorable partner rather than a simple mascot.
Monthly Goals and a Second Story
The year is divided into 12 monthly goals that guide your progress. April asks you to create an employee ID card for Umeshiwa as a 126-yen new employee. June focuses on the rainy season and a flood of unread letters, with the goal of consolidating communication routes. July involves an air conditioning civil war and a temperature agreement in the cafeteria. October is about finding a home for the section chief and reclaiming his lunch break. December has you return forgotten vacation time before the year ends, and March sends you on a journey with 365 days of records of your companion.
There is also a separate eight-chapter adventure called Give Back Twelve O'Clock, which investigates why lunch breaks disappeared from the town. You walk the map to collect evidence, and in a mode called Cracks in Memory, you switch between Takashi and Umeshiwa, push boxes, pass through gaps, and carry out memories. This story is separate from the 365-day mode, and you can start with either one.
If you prefer to focus on the games, the Mini-Game Arcade lets you choose from the 100 games based on how they are played, without affecting story progression.
Pricing and Access
Basic gameplay is free, and the game is free to play from April 1st to April 30th (Day 30). The Umeshiwa Commuter Pass costs 300 yen as a one-time purchase and allows you to progress to March 31st. There are no ads and no other charges. The game is a satirical comedy fiction based on the daily lives of Japanese office workers and is not related to any real companies, organizations, or people.
Playing on PC and Mac with MuMuPlayer
Umeshiwa's short daily sessions and varied mini-games work well on a larger screen. You can also play on Mac, including MacBook and macOS, and on Mac mini through MuMuPlayer, so the commute can continue wherever you are. Because each day is brief and the notebook saves your progress, it is easy to return to the game on PC or Mac whenever you have a few minutes.
